In order to play the game, "Hannah and the Pirate Caves" you must first (obviously) open the game. To do that, click here or here. We recommend Google Chrome, and Apple's Safari also works. Take note that many common web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft's Internet Explorer cannot play HatPC. If you do not normally use a compatible browser, you can click here to learn how to create a shortcut to open HATPC quickly from the browser of your choice.

If the game does not begin loading, then you might need to download shockwave. If you're lucky, this might begin automatically, or maybe, you'll just have to click a few links to get it to work. But if you're unlucky, well, downloading shockwave is a common stumbling block for people aspiring to play HATPC. It is even possible you get a Shockwave Error or another error when loading the game. For more some advanced troubleshooting, click here. Or you can post below, asking for help with starting HATPC, and we'll try our best to help you get the game up and running. You'll need an Interguild account to do this. If you don't have one, click here and fill out the required fields. If you have trouble signing up, contact Livio via email and he'll be happy to assist you.

After the game loads, you may be asked whether or not you want to "Play Game", "Login", or "Sign Up". If it does, this means that you are not logged in to Neopets. You do not need to be logged in to play the game, so you can just click "Play Game". However you will need to be logged in if you wish to upload your own levels or have your high-scores be saved. If you wish to take advantage of the game's members-only features, click here to login to Neopets, or, alternatively, click here to create an account with Neopets if you do not already have one. If you click those links within the HatPC window, those links will open within said window, and you may end up having to reload the game.

Once the game's home menu is up you have four options. Click "Play Game" to play the main game's levels, click "Load User Level" to play a user-made level, click "Options" to adjust your sound and background settings, or click "Cave of the Week" to play the cave Neopets thought was the best this week.

Downloading older versions of Shockwave doesn't work (I tried Shockwave 11.x, 10.x and 8.x)
Using other browser doesn't work (I tried Chrome, IE8, Firefox, Safari, Avant Browser and Opera Browser)
I don't think it's operating system related (it doesn't work on my Windows 7 laptop or on my family's Vista desktop)
Doing a Registry fix didn't help, which it did last time for me.

I'll try deleting temporary internet files, although that would be odd, because I think those are saved separately for each browser and HatPC didn't work for any browser on my laptop.
edit: Just as I thought, deleting Cookies, Temporary Internet Files and clearing your Cache doesn't work.

I was saying that it was after I deleted the temp files that it STOPPED working. So, like, if you get it to work once, it keeps working, 'cause it's already loaded, right? But if you delete the temp files (or whatever), then you're wide open to being affected be the shockwave error, again.

Try a different account on your computer?

hey! I just tested it on Safari and I got the shockwave error, but then I played it in Chrome and I didn't get it!

Maybe it is related to temporary internet files, cookies, or cache? And if it is, then how can we figure out what you need to get HATPC to work?

Delete your temporary internet files (and everything) on chrome, and then see if it still works.

32 bit/64 bit browsers maybe? I barely know anything about this topic so that might have sounded stupid, that was just a wild guess >.<

is there anyway I can save them and then manually place them back in, in case it really does make HATPC crash?

I'm currently saving a backup of the entire google chrome /User Data/Default folder.

If I lose HATPC, I'll copy each subsequent folder back in until I find out what files are needed to make HATPC work. Hopefully what I need is being saved there. Maybe I should've copied the entire Chrome folder....

I tried that and it didn't work. Even fresh newly downloaded browsers don't work.

what I'm saying is that there could be something in the cache that allows HATPC to work.

Omg! I just cleared all the cached data in chrome, and HATPC didn't work. Now I just have to copy over the files that use to be there until I find the one that makes HATPC work. Then I could post it here and you guys could download it and play HATPC again.

uh oh. I was copying over the 2364 cache files by about 91 at a time, but then I wondered if i was even dealing with the right folder, so I copied all of them over at once and tried to play HATPC. Instead of getting a shockwave error, I would be at the loading screen, but it would never start loading, but the animation would keep playing.

I found something in a "Media Cache" folder, but that didn't do anything. I'm also finding that HATPC takes forever to open now...

http://www.interguild.org/hatpcfiles/f_000004

Right-click on that and Save As.

If on Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\
If on Windows XP, go to: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\

Continue to /User Data/Default/Cache/ and save in that folder.

And then you should be able to play HATPC!

please test this, and if it really does work, I'll put it up in the guide.

The [USERNAME] thing is the user that you are currently on (you know how you can log into your computer under different users, right?).

and if you don't see the AppData folder, it's hidden. To see it, click on the Start button at the bottom left of the screen and type in "Folder Options" in the search. Then go to the "View" tab, and scroll down until you see a set of buttons for hidden folders, and choose to display them.

it works for me, and when I get rid of it, it crashes again. Maybe somehow the Index file needs to get updated. Hold on, let me try something...

I saved it correctly, it asked to overwrite a previous file so it was probably the correct map, but I still get the Shockwave error.

Edit: perhaps it is a combination of files.

Is there something that might be required to be set up so that chrome knows what that file's for and where to find it?

Could we rig it up to not have to replace our index? Look inside the index for some reference to, like http://images.neopets.com/349(something).swf, and see if you can figure out exactly what to place inside an existing index?
