So what is it all about?

Starting Invincibility is a feature in the game that makes Hannah invincible for a little while at the start of every level. It also works in the main levels.

This means that she will be able to stand, walk, jump, crawl, swim and fall through spikes, get in explosions, be able to get hit by arrows, have solid objects such as metal crates and boulders fall on her and all this without being killed.

How?

Well, to do this, you can't do much - it's not in your control. It doesn't matter if you want to or not, Hannah will survive anything that might kill her for the first few seconds of the level. You should know that this time is measured in frames, not seconds. So if you are playing on a laggy computer, Hannah will be invincible for more seconds, but in the game she won't be able to get any further during this extra time. When Hannah loses her invincibility, she will start being killable in all familiar ways - meaning that if she stood on a spike at the moment her invincibility wears off, Hannah will die. Do note that this doesn't apply to metal crates that have fallen on you. Crates can only kill at the time they are falling. So if they are already standing on the ground when your invincibility wears of, you will still survive.

When?

At the very start of every level. While invincible, Hannah can walk 11 tiles or swim 7 tiles to the side; she can swim 17 tiles upwards while invincible, and 8 tiles downwards, and if she falls, her invincibilty wears off after falling 23 tiles. She can crawl up to 5 tiles while invincible. Of course, you usually combine these - walking and crawling, for example. You can know when the effect wears off by looking at Hannah: when she's still invincible, she will be flashing; you can't miss it. When the invincibility wears off, she'll get back to the regular look - without the flashing. Here's an example of a flashing Hannah:

Hannah is invincible, and is flashing green. She has also, in this case, survived an arrow hitting her.

Why?

This glitch can be implemented in many ways. You can use it to get Hannah to areas she wouldn't be able to get to without it - for example, in CSD's Realm of Dying Brain's starting trap, where you crawl through spikes; or you can use it to have Hannah perform anything that she wouldn't be able to do otherwise - for example, in the starting trap of my cave Imperio (see explanation below).

This glitch can also be used for "cheating". By that, I mean that it could help the player cheat certain traps - play in a way that wasn't intended to be played. An example would be jumping in front of an arrow while being invincible, to stop a chain reaction. It makes the cheat-proofing of the cave a little harder.

Where?Creative uses of invincibility can be found in many caves.

One example is Ckjr's level, Left Out. There, Ckjr used the glitch to have Hannah survive the spikes above her, beneath her, and to the left of her.

Another example is in my level, Imperio. There, you have to hit the dynamite to the right of Hannah, and jump right into the dynamite to have it explode in the air at a certain height.

One more example is CSD's Warp-Pipe of Doom. In this level, you must have Hannah stand next to the spike, so that when the arrow hits her, it will destroy the spike.

A video example

In this video, you can see how Hannah is flashing, invincible, at the start of the level. She then walks and crawls on spikes. When the invincibility wears off, she stops flashing.
