okay if anyone comes on soon, I could use some major help. Does anyone have Crusader Kings 2? I can get It with like all the DLC's and stuff right now for FIFTEEN DOLLARS! (80 buck value) and there are people with thousands of hours on log so i'm assuming it is something you can keep on playing, but yeah. I am a major sucker for huge deals like this.

Smogon is about to ban a Pokemon from Ubers. These are odd times we're living in.

They were about to ban Shadow Tag earlier, which would effectively do the same, but I think banning Shadow Tag would mean banning it from all lower tiers as well? | | shos |

'Quirvy' said: Upon hearing that GTA V is coming to PC, I decided to install GTA IV on my new computer and try it again, with a slightly better computer.
To add onto all the criticisms jell has had for that game, I think I figured out why I don't like GTA IVs story; we get introduced to new characters, play a few missions with them, and then don't work with them ever again. They don't build character depth through missions, but instead try to do it by having the player hang out with some of them. The big problem with that (besides people not wanting to play pool/darts, ect.) is that the depth built doesn't really matter much in regards to the story, because by the end of the game all of those people are no longer actively involved in any missions, so the missions end up feeling a bit hollow. The lone exception being Packie. All in all, it felt like they tried to involve too many characters instead of focusing on a select number. Niko goes through so many bosses/partners that by the end of the story, that Packie is the only person I'd say I was involved in enough missions with to care about.
And they really should have put in some sort of option to disable the color filter; the gloomy grey style is just silly, and LC looks much better without it.
I also noticed that we either go to scumbag Francis' or junkie Derrick's funeral, but when our girlfriend Kate or cousin Roman dies at the end, we never go to any funeral for them...
I'm thinking I might replay San Andreas to see how egregious they were with the way missions were done. I imagine pretty similar, so I'm curious how they managed to do it in a way that didn't end up leaving a negative impression on me. I loved SA(jell didn't?! did not remember that) and when I heard about V I wanted to do that too, but my GPU apparantly is superawesome-but-not-for-games, so GTA IV runs really bad on it.. so I haven't played it yet :/
Lately I saw the Shadow of Mordor trailer and I was like OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOM

I'm currently looking forward to LoL, also known as League of Legends. It's currently being developed by former DotA mapmaker Guinsoo, and some other people I don't know much about.
Anyone, except for Jell, who heard of these ones?

I started a new Skyrim game today. I probably would've held off for another few months, but my music stopped playing on my old character and the only way to get to listen to the soundtrack while in-game was to start a new character. Character 1: 414 hours, January 16th, 2013-July 28th, 2014. My old character was an Argonian, level 68, Thane of every hold (except for Winterhold), Archmage, Guildmaster, Bard, Harbinger, Werewolf, Dawnguard member, Skaal-Friend, Listener, Stormcloak, and probably some other stuff too that I forgot. Weapon of choice: Daedric Warhammer (Legendary). Not a magic user. Can walk on water.
Character 2: Nord, blonde and blue, still going to be a Stormcloak. Not going to be a werewolf or anything this time because I like sleeping bonuses and I never use werewolf form anyway. I'm going to avoid fast travel as much as I possibly can this time around, because I want a more authentic Skyrim experience. Going to focus more on Stamina this time, more than Health and Magicka. Last time I never upgraded any Magicka, and upgraded Health and Stamina equally. I was always lugging around a ton of health potions that I never used. I don't need quite that much health. I do need more inventory space though.
If I find a command to change myself into a creature I'm becoming a goat, no matter what. I'm also going to turn any Imperials I find into foxes or something. Stormcloaks I will turn into dragons. HELLYEAH STORMCLOAKS!!!

My main vacation game was Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy. Even not counting the title, it's still a pretty awesome game. It's another dime a dozen parody/tribute to classic 2D RPGs, but instead of riding solely on witty dialogue and lampshade hanging, it parodies the genre with a weird time mechanic that makes it sort of a RPG puzzle game. You have 30 seconds to beat the evil Overlord and save the world, but also in that time you have to level grind, and do potential petty villager sidequests. It has both excellent writing and gameplay, and good graphics and music to boot.
A problem with 3D Dot Game Heroes, another 2D RPG tribute I've been playing lately, is that they have the original intent and style of the games down and the dialogue is occasionally funny, they don't do much to differentiate the gameplay in any sort of manner. It's fun, but at times it's very repetitive, difficult for the sake of being difficult, and a bit 1 dimensional. From From Software, the crazy people behind Dark Souls if you were curious. Half Minute Hero is great, and it's cool because there's one game mode that can take like 10 hours to play all the way through, then there's 3 smaller modes which take like 2 hours each. They aren't as refined games as the main game, but still lots of fun and very funny. There's one mode that's like a real time strategy game, then there's one that's like a long escort mission. My personal favorite is the shoot em up mode where you play a foul-mouthed princess who has a 30 second curfew outside of her castle and in that time crowdsurfs on a mob of guards while wielding a giant rapid-fire crossbow to accomplish whatever she needs. Pretty amazing.
Nabbed it for $2.50 in the Steam sale, will probably clock in over 20 hours by the time I'm done with it. Worth it to the max. And it has a sequel. Hooray!

Finished the original F.E.A.R, pretty good first person shooter game for being almost 10 years old. The combat sequences are really tense, the AI are really intelligent, and while 1-2 weapons are clearly better than all the others, they give you a good selection of them (I thought this game's weapon selection was alright, then they introduced a semiautomatic nail gun and a laser beam, leading me to realize the weapon selection was great). They did have a lot of weird weaponry, but the most versatile and useful gun by far was the regular shotgun. Also, I'm pretty sure it's near impossible to screw up slow motion in a video game, and since that's one of the selling points, it was glorious. The best part is it's player activated, so you're not just restricted to a couple of planned sequences. It can make the outcome of a fight drastically different.
For example there's this one part in the game where you're on an indoor balcony lounge looking over an elevator lobby and lounge below. There's one enemy around a bend on the second floor and one near the staircase that leads downstairs, and a few seconds after you enter the room, three enemies will come out of an elevator, and then a few seconds after that, three enemies will come out of another elevator. Without using slowmo, it's basically a giant mess because the guys coming out of the first elevator notice you almost right away and alert the two guys on the second floor of your presence. By the time that the second elevator arrives, either you are already dead, or you're near dead and everyone is shooting at you, and basically your only option is to fight through the second floor, work your way down the stairs and then take out the 6 guys who came from the elevators. But with slow motion, you can leap off the balcony down onto the first floor, throw a grenade in the elevator as its doors open, run back up the stairs to the second floor and shotgun the two guys up there before they notice you, and jump down onto the first floor again to catch the second group of elevator enemies by surprise. There's dozens of outcome altering moments like that in the game, but the above was probably my favorite.
The other selling point of the game is that it's a FPS with horror elements. It kinda succeeds at that. I think it's a silly concept of trying to scare someone when they're armed to the teeth, so they mainly went with psychological horror, fear of the unknown, and suspense instead of jump scares and ludicrous gore (there was still plenty of the latter though, a well aimed shotgun could literally paint the wall with a bad guy in one hit). This allowed the few jump scares they used to be super effective; there are electro super assassins with invisibility cloaks that crash through windows and try to stab you, which was one of my favorite parts by far, but they only show up at two areas in the entire game. The problem with the horror elements though is that they don't evolve beyond the initial 5-6 tricks that they used. And the game seems to completely drop them around the end of stage 5 and don't have them reappear until end stage 10, the second to last stage. During that gap begin to introduce weird grounded sci-fi elements like mini mechas, super soldiers and killer drones, which while I would normally invite into a game I'm playing with open arms, but they didn't mesh well with the horror elements. The ending is super rushed too, chapters 6-9 involve things that don't really matter, or just involve you walking to places that do matter. Then stage 11 pops up and bam it's over. It adheres to too many horror cliche; if you start out a level with backup or reinforcements, you know they'll be dead or out of action within minutes. The level designs also become really samey after a while; it's all labs, warehouses, and abandoned buildings, over and over.
Worth $2.50 though, if not just for the slowmo.
