So Yaya, being the absolute god that he is, linked me to this thread on /r/neopets on reddit today.

It seems that a kindly fellow by the name of DroidFreak36 has taken it upon himself to remake Hannah and the Pirate Caves. This is something that we've wanted for a long time now, seeing as Neopets no longer supports the game. Aeon was a step in the right direction, but I think it's a bit limited in its current state, and it's unlikely to progress any further.

I haven't played HatPC in years (too lazy to use Fiddler, and I'm not sure that even works anymore), so this is some pretty great news for me.

I've been playing through the most recent patch, and I'm wondering if you've added the gem in yet, because I couldn't find it in the level

Yes, the gem is there, in the same place as in the original tut level 1. You find it by falling down the very last hole you're supposed to jump over (or falling down a different hole and climbing up the ladder into that one). There is a single boulder which can be pushed in that hole. Push it to the left, and it'll smash the platform below, letting you access the secret area.

In Alpha 0.1.0 the secret area is rendered a bit funky due to a bug in GameMaker: Studio's HTML5 export module. I can't render the terrain and then punch holes in it, so instead I have a terrain sprite with holes already punched into it.

No problem. It's a pretty tricky hiding spot. I didn't notice it at first either, but when I was exploring to recreate the level I was like "Hey, you can actually push that boulder. I wonder what it does."

Could we get a developer update on your blog (http://droidfreakgames.blogspot.co.uk/) - I've really enjoyed reading the posts you made in September.

I can put up some more updates there if there is interest, although at the moment I have no internet on my PC (until Tuesday).

The current status of development is that I just finished coding the improved tutorial message syntax, so now I need to test and debug that. Then I'll change some level codes to use them, add checkpoints (which will reuse a lot of the same code), and then implement a few more minor features and fixes for the next version.

I also post more frequent updates in the Discord server I made for HATPC Reborn. I don't have a link to it at my fingertips right now since I'm on my phone, but you can probably find it if you look around (for one thing, you can click on the Discord link on my website and I'll get you added to that server). One thing that I posted on there that I didn't post in the proposed tutorial message syntax thread is that I'm replacing "!" with "$" as the character that starts the line since "!" codes for water tap crates. I wasn't aware of that until someone pointed it out on Discord.

I don't know if this is an issue with the game itself or if it's something on my end, but just now I got some pretty weird stuttering, like 1fps (Alpha 0.1.4 version). I only had a couple of other tabs open in Chrome, but admittedly this is on a laptop with "meh" internet connection, so I guess it could be a number of things. Any ideas about what could have caused this?

I don't think internet speed should be an issue since this is Javascript which is client-side, but it could be a processing or RAM limitation. That does look unusually bad though, especially since the render optimization I did in 0.1.3. Something is slowing your tick rate to a crawl. When you pull up your task manager, how much CPU power and RAM is Chrome using? And what's your total system RAM and number of CPU cores (since per-core performance is probably what matters here)? I can try to optimize for either if one is the limiting factor.

You could also just try rebooting your computer and/or closing other programs and tabs, that might help.

My laptop has an i5-6200U (2 cores, 4 threads) and 8GB of RAM. CPU and RAM usage is usually around 20-40% with a few tabs open (things like Google Drive), and closer to 40-70% also with HATPC Reborn playing, at the max. I haven't been able to reproduce the issue though, so maybe it was a one-time thing.

Ah, maybe it was fixed by a reboot or something then. When you had the issue, had HATPC Reborn been running for a while? It's possible that there were memory leaks in 0.1.4. I'm almost certain there are memory leaks in my current dev version, but I'll try to remove the ones I know about before pushing out the update. And HATPC Reborn uses very little RAM anyways, if you have 8 gigs I doubt it was a RAM issue.

Yeah, it had probably been running for about an hour or more. Closing my remaining tabs helped a bit, but I think the only real fix was to restart.
