Alaska was separated from Russia through the rising of water after the Ice Age which covered the "land bridge" OR Alaska was bought from Russia by the US after the Civil War during the Reconstruction Period when the Secretary of (something) made a deal with Russia and bought the immense region. Many people thought it was a big waste of money and named the whole deal "Seward's Folly" after the Secretary of (something) who made the deal. But to their luck, the US would make tons of money from Alaska's oil. the silk road was an Asian trade route where spice traders traveled to trade their goods. right? Canada was originally occupied by the French, but after the French and Indian War, the British pushed them almost completely out of the New World. Who discovered and named Canana? I dunno. | |

West Virginia became a state during the American Civil War. When South Carolina and a few other states seceded from the nation to form the Confederate States of America, the other Southern states said they would join the Confederacy only if the government decided to use force to keep them from leaving. But when fighting broke out (even though the south technically fired the first shot) the other southern states, including Virginia officially broke from the US and joined the Confederacy. But the people living in the area known today as West Virginia didn't want to fight against the Union, so they somehow created a new state on that area. | |

I remember my 7th grade teacher asked this to my music teacher and he practically got it wrong. and this is supposed to be an easy question. | |
