This is one topic for all of the caves in the cavelist. find a cave you like? post about it here and get other people to try it and hopefully praise it.

btw, I currently have 112 levels praised

anyway, earlier today I found quirvy and dando playing DELUXE_SPIKE_CAVE, up on both actualscimmy and tigerboy98ken. try it.

_hatpc_cave_tester_ has a Guild Cave uploaded to it. Which guild is it?
It also uses strange characters for treasures, which cannot be parsed by the map generator. I tried adding it to it, but no luck...

A guess? It's just somebody who made a remake of the guild cave. Maybe nathaneals? I vaguely remember him making to guild-cave-like levels, so there'd be another somewhere, besides ULTIMATE CAVE.

And you mean that actually shows up as a treasure? Why? Teh-Marz's map can't handle it either. It shows up as three successive fake-crates.

well it uses some kind of a cross, not a plus. and the uploader recognizes it correctly? this has to be investigated. Marz' maps have a coding that say that if it's not any of the following chars - ''bdgklmno.." then it's a fake crate.

Made sense to me.

I'd be surprised if it were the uploader's 'recognition'. Maybe some shifty UTF hack? Then again NP was never too logical.

Edit: The cave uses the UTF-8 #e280a0, which is in no way related to '+' (#2b), so it would have to be 'recognised'.

How many (per cross character)?

I guess all of the treasures do? basically, anything the game doesn't recognize just comes up as a fake crate.

I meant, does each cross character become 1, or 3, fake crates, in game?

if it becomes 3, then that would make the line longer, and cut it off. I'll go check

Hate to butt in this conversation, but I just found out when you hover your mouse over a tile it tells you what the tile it. Another little bonus which makes the generator awesome.

† - This is what happens when I paste that character here (Alt + 0134, if you wanna make one show up). Neopets once used this in place of the + character. You know, when I load the cave, it does not show up properly, so perhaps this is the remnants of an uploader-glitch of the past? There's no reason to account for this in the uploader. Essentially, it IS three fake crates.

Somebody replace those with treasures and add it to the gallery? Who is this person, though? I'd guess Nathan, but does anybody remember for sure if this might be his cave or side account?

I'm about 30% sure it's Nathan, but that seems like the best way to go, you know, until Nathan joins and confirms it, or something. Anybody wanna try and contact him?... Nah.

I just did a search for "nathanaels" to see if he had any side accounts, and it's like "thank you for adding... blah blah". Kinda shocked actually. The cave is this empty cave called "Guild Cave Frame", but it appears to have little relation to _hatpc_cave_tester_ other than the name.

I mean REALLY, this is a cave by SOMEBODY from HATPCG, and Nathan seems like the most obvious choice.

Let me explain why the cross becomes three fake crates.

Most characters, as some of you will know, are coded in ASCII. Each ASCII character is a single byte (an 8 digit binary number). '+', for example, is binary 00101011, which can also be displayed in hexadecimal as #2b (or in decimal as 43).

The character '†', on the other hand, is not part of the ASCII set, and is instead a UTF-8 character. Each UTF-8 character is defined in 3 bytes, or a 24 digit binary number. The cross is binary 11100010 10000000 10100000, or hexadecimal #e280a0.

While your browsers and perhaps other applications understand that the character is not ASCII, but UTF, HatPC just sees a sequence of 3 bytes, which it assumes to be three individual characters, #e2, #80, and #a0. None of these are recognised, so they become three fake crates.
