Up until I was 12 years old, I only had a PC. And it was a bad one at that. When I installed COD 2 back in the day, it took SIX DISCS FOR INSTALLATION, likewise Star Wars Battle Front took four. I mainly stuck to Lego Racers 2 and Speedy Eggbert (absolutely fantastic 2D platformer game for the PC. It even had it's own level maker. I'd probably recommend it to you ambitious types). My Mom finally broke down and bought me a PS2, ironically just as the PS3, 360, and Wii were taking over. So until I got a PS3, I maniacally played Star Wars Battlefront 2, Destroy All Humans 2, and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe./life story thru games

Here's my gaming childhood:

PC:

Lego Racers
Lego Racers 2
Lego Stunt Track Rally (or something like that)
Lego Island
Demolition Racer
40 games

I remember I got a bunch of lego games in some bundle but these were the once I played the most. I really liked the powerup system and the first Lego Racers and I remember being disappointed to see it removed from the sequel. However, the sequel was a truly great game. We played it to death and it was just a ton of fun.

That Stunt Track game (if I even have the name right) was a rather strange racing game where all you control is your speed and which lane you're in. It too was a lot of fun, especially its track editor.

I actually played Lego Island 2 before getting Lego Island 1, and when you compare the two titles, I was blown away by how much more awesome the original game was compared to the second game.

I actually have no idea where I got Demolition Racer from (was it from... pirates?? ), but it was another one of my top favorites. It was a points-based racing game where you get points by giving other cars damage, and your final position in the race determines how many points get added to you score. There were so many great moments in that game; getting the legendary "Death from Above" attack never stopped being epic. The game also had plenty of other fun modes in it. Actually, I should go see if I can download that game again from somewhere...

I also had this thing called "40 games", which was a collection of very basic games, like Asteroids, SOKOBON ( ), among other things. They had a really cool multiplayer version of the Snake game, and I just loved it. You could play with up to like 8 players, and each guy was a different color, and as you go along the screen your tail leaves a permanent "wall of death". As the screen gets more filled with everyone's ever-expanding tails, more people die off until finally someone wins. The game came with a ton of options, where you could put a limit on the size of your tails, change how many players and CPUs there are and even change some of the sound effects.

Playstation 1 (our cousins gave it to us when they got a PS2):

Lego Island 2
Monsters Inc
Test Drive 5
Grand Tour Racing

I love racing games. Test Drive 5 was a lot of fun. It was always a blast trying to dodge traffic and police cars, and the simplistic crash physics sure made for some ridiculous, high-flying crashes.

Grand Tour Racing was also a good game, the cars were much more varied than in other games I had played at that time. We sure spent a lot of time messing around in multiplayer throwing each other off these ridiculously high cliffs and trying to get into areas we weren't supposed to.

I got the Monsters Inc. game as a sub-prize from a Nickelodeon sweepstakes. It was a pretty average game and it sure required a lot of button mashing.

The gimmick of Lego Island 2 was that you could now travel to other islands. Unfortunately, it was much less colorful and a much more empty world compared to the first game.

Wow Livio, our views pretty much diverge here. I played Lego Racers 2 before #1. I recall there still being powerups in the sequel. I remember being able to shoot discs, launch rockets, and become invisible. I liked the sequel more. I also played Lego Island 2 before #1, but by the time I got to the original, I was disappointed by how simple it was compared to Lego Island 2. Still a good game, but I liked going a bunch of places.

Oh I must've worded that badly. I still liked the random powerups of LR2, but what I was saying was that I missed the strategic power-up pickups from the first game. The power ups were basically bricks (red [offensive], blue [defensive], yellow [traps], green [boost]) and you could either use your powerups right away or you could collect white bricks to upgrade your powerups into more powerful versions. It was pretty cool, but now that I think of it, the random power ups were probably better balanced

But LR2 was indeed a way better game. I really like how they had these open worlds where the tracks were just varying runs through different parts of those worlds. Haily and I used to spend hours in this one level where there was a small town and we would just hold battles there over and over again. And then one of us always had to run away when the other got the nuke power up, and it wasn't easy b/c that town was pretty cramped and just touching the buildings chips off your damage.

I think the reason why I liked LI1 more was because it just felt like the island was more alive. It was indeed simpler, but the world that you were in just seemed a lot better than the world created by LI2. I also remember getting stuck a lot in LI2, lol, but going places was pretty cool. I also went around pressing the SELECT button in order to change everything's color

Lol, I'll agree on getting stuck. I remember not being able to pass the last mission (I remember a crazy staircase and throwing pizzas) for legitimately a year. Did you ever play Lego Rock Raiders? It was a cross between Fallout and Roller Coaster Tycoon. Pure strategic awesomeness.

Here are some other lego games that I got but didn't play much:

Lego Rock Raiders: I just couldn't get into it. As a kid, I couldn't appreciate slow strategy games like that. Plus, I got the feeling like the tutorial was too long and that I wasn't making much progress. But I know Haily played the game for quite a bit.

Lego Alpha Team: This I have a really, really, really vague memory of. I think the gameplay was something like a puzzle where you used each of the characters' abilities to get past each level? I know that I didn't play it much.

Lego Creator and Lego Creator: Knights Kingdom: I played this game for quite a bit, but that's only because it was time consuming and not because I thought it was very cool. I actually played a lot of real Lego as a kid, and so the idea of playing with virtual lego blocks was attractive since it meant I never ran out of pieces. BUT it just wasn't the same, and it made my computer pretty slow. The Knights Kingdom game was the same thing but with a special focus on medieval pieces. I actually liked to play with that more because I would set up two castles and two opposing armies and hit run, and watch them destroy each other. In fact, the defining aspect of the Knights version was that you could destroy things.

Legoland: This was cool, and I should've placed it in my previous list. I can't believe I forgot about it. It was a tycoon game, and I played the game so much, despite not liking slow paced games. I remember after beating the game I made this crazy huge park in Free Play mode. It was so huge that I put driving school roads everywhere to help my customers navigate the whole area. lol it was awesome, but I hated how they put a cap on how much memory your world takes up.

Seriously, where did all these games come from? I don't remember buying them, lol It's like how I have memories of playing Donkey Kong Country, but I don't remember how I possibly had access to that game when I never had an SNES

Man all this time I thought of my childhood as a game-deprived existence but I played plenty of games. I just remembered that I had two Hot Wheels games: Stunt Track Driver and Stunt Track Driver 2: Gettin' Dirty. It was a weird game that was all about you driving a hot wheels car down those iconic orange tracks of theirs. It wasn't much of a driving game since all you could do was lean left or right to dodge obstacles and stuff, and the sequel was pretty much the same thing except that it featured some crazy off-road tracks and a level editor. While the gameplay wasn't much, I'm surprised to remember that it was actually an entertaining game. I guess it was just fun to look at some of the ridiculous tracks that they had designed.

I remember there was this one cool game called Hot Wheels: Velocity X, which came the closest to being my dream hot wheels games, but I can't remember if I actually owned the game or not or where I played it. I think it had random powerups, but it also had crazy jumps and ramps, great multiplayer, and an awesome battle mode.

I also remember playing Hot Wheels World Race a bit, but I think it was another cousin of mine who actually owned the game. Hot Wheels actually came out with a full-length movie called World Race, which I think I still own. Seriously, that movie was actually pretty good and well written. When the sequel came out, I was already getting too old for Hot Wheels, but I managed to see it on Toonami and man, was it awesome. To this day, Hot Wheels Acceleracers is one of my favorite things left over from my childhood. I still have all four movies they made for it. It was written in such a way that you could watch it again and again and each time you'd find another subtle hint towards something dark and mysterious. The worst part is that they ended it all with the steepest cliffhanger that I've ever seen. It's as if the writers did that in order to help get Hot Wheels to continue funding this crazy project. But they never did...

I also had Lego Island. Great game, I posted about it on IceCaves in some thread about Lego games. I also had Lego Racers, but I had it on the N64. Nice game, but it couldn't compete with Mario Kart 64.

And Shos, I am pretty much the exact opposite. I currently own every Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft console except for the PS3 and XBox360. I did have many PC games as a kid, the most memorable probably being Heroes of Might and Magic III and Zoo Tycoon.

I played Lego Racers 2 too.  My games were mostly SSX and SSX Tricky, Lego Racers 2, Jax and Daxter 1, 2, an 3, and ATV 1, 2 and 3.  I got every ATV and MX game that I could, I loved them so much.  I have something like 6 now, I think.  All on the PS2, of course.

Does Silver know what Yuri is!?

I played chess on my computer at the age of 3. My first video game was Tarzan, based on the Disney movie. After that, Age of Empires II. Just like Jell I've also owned HoMM3, which is a very notable game.
My friend had Unreal Tournament, GOTY edition, and that is also one of the best games from my childhood.

Lol you guys, Yuri is one of the main characters' names.

I'm not actually playing any particular game right now, mainly just listening to music from Elebits DS.

I do not know what that is either.

I haven't played any games in the past few days, but the other day I saw this and now I'm thinking of downloading it:
http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/icenhancer-12---enb-graphic-mod-f9236
It's a mod for GTA IV that makes the graphics seem more realistic. Hopefully it won't break the game.

I remember that shos compared minecraft to SimCity, and that reminded me that I still had SimCity 4 on this computer, and earlier today I played it for a little while, continuing a region I had already started building up some time ago:

Spoiler:

I have doubt that I'll ever finish the entire region, though...

You simulate the construction/running of a city. It's not a really accurate depiction of that, but it's still fun. SimCity 3000 was one of the first games I played. But I never really got into Sims, so I can't really say much about that other than that I think that the concept behind it is kind of ridiculous (simulating people's lives as a game)

So several days ago I downloaded Lego Racers 2 so that I can see why I liked that game so much. I find that the biggest reason I liked it was b/c the multiplayer was fun, but for some reason Haily refuses to play the game with me. Also the car editor requires that you use the numpad, but my computer doesn't have a numpad.

But now if you were to look at all the games on my desktop, you'll find the Lego Racers 2 icon right next to the GTA IV icon.

The other day I downloaded Demolition Racer and man is that game fun. Unfortunately the game cannot find the music files, which is a shame b/c the soundtrack is really good. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't remember having ever gotten the soundtrack to work when I used to own this game.

So now I'm thinking of downloading PCSX, which is a playstation 1 emulator for windows. If I do get around to downloading it, I'm definitely gonna try to get the PS1 version of Demolition Racer to work on there, but what other PS1 games do you recommend that I try out?
