Just small, unofficial contest I'm going to be running across the months.

There are 5 parts to this run, 2 IL speedrun, an any% speedrun, and a 100% speedrun

Firstly, the overall rules. Timing starts upon pressing jump to start on the first level, and ends on touching the door on the final level. Getting a game over is not allowed, but this might change. You cannot skip levels, nor may you play on HATPC Reborn, if you want an easy way to play original hatpc, use flashpoint.

Secondly, the IL speedruns. You do not need to collect the gem for either of these levels

The first IL speedrun is for level 1. This level is simple and short enough that I feel it can become incredibly optimised, especially with the first two treasures. Chances are a good time would be about 14 seconds ish

The second IL speedrun is for level 15. This level is much more complicated, but still contains various areas that can be optimised, especially near the start of the level. A good time would be about a sub minute time.

Thirdly, the any% run. This is simple enough, starting at level 1, go through levels 1-20. Time ends upon reaching the door of level 20. No gems or extra lives need to be collected, however, level 8's extra life is completely free . A quick warning however, not every level is that fun to beat quickly, prepare for boredom levels 3,6,8 and 17. Good time might be about 20-25 minutes? I'm unsure

Lastly, the 100% run. Starting on tutorial 1, get all 23 gems and all 7 extra lives. The extra lives are in levels 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 16, unless I've missed any. This will take a while, maybe about 30 minutes for a good run?

All in all, you have until July 1st to make the best speedrun you can. I will need a video of the runs you submit, but only that one has to be recorded. Have fun!

Because something was needed to liven up the community

I did an any% run (no video) back in 2011 in 19:04. I started time in the same place as you described but I think I stopped time on the game complete screen? Not sure. I died once in level nine trying to go for the quick jump onto the platform with the first arrow.

I got pretty frustrated with inconsistent load times so I didn't take running it too seriously. Even when I didn't die I would still end up with a slower time due to loads. HATPC is actually a really easy game to play quickly while never dying. There are really only a couple of points where there's much room for any significant time-saves.

The most interesting level in the run IMO is level eight.

I like this a lot. I'm pretty bad at HatPC, but this is a fun twist on the game. Since we're just measuring the time spent in the level itself, I think that that somewhat standardizes the process for everyone, regardless of loading times. Is everyone using LiveSplit to record times?

For individuals, I got 0:15 for level 1. I think I could take it down to 0:14 with some work, but I'd have to be really smooth for 0:13 (not sure if that's possible). I got 1:07 for level 15, but I haven't seriously optimized it. I'm sleepy now, but this weekend I'm going to see what my best segmented run might be able to be, just for starters, and optimize individual levels from there.

I'll definitely submit an any% run soon. I'm not sure I have the patience for 100%... or maybe I do, given the circumstances. We'll see!

Edit: 14.68 for level 1. You have to get a really good timing on the first jump so that you don't waste time bouncing on the crates, and the bird has to go right instead of left. If it's near the treasure when you're trying to get it, sub-15 isn't possible.

As a kid I always thought tennisballs looked delicious and I liked biting them. I still remember the feel of the fuzz on my teeth and tongue.
