Also, do think a HATIC cavemaker would let you put in hidden things of text in the background? And maybe that secret guy from the end of the last level too.

hmm i'm wondering if there's a way to put some text in there. right now it says unknown.

They don't cause shockwave errors, they simply stop the level from loading further than them.

Maybe that line was longer than the others?
If you put a tutorial arrow in the level, then the game will cycle form 0% to 100% a few times, then display a shockwave error.

It can't be done using this method. The messages for the original levels are stored separately from the level data.

Haha. The impossible gems...only now did this page see the light!

Some older versions of HATPC let you jump higher from water. This makes it possible to get the gems on level 7 and 9.

Here are all versions I know of:
http://web.archive.org/web/20031225013418/http://www.robotduck.com/dev/nppc/caves40.dcr
http://images.neopets.com/games/caves46d.dcr (demo version, see bottom of http://www.neopets.com/nf.phtml?nf_date=2003-11-17 )
http://web.archive.org/web/20070108032032/http://www.robotduck.com/dev/nppc/caves56.dcr (with an intro from the creator, http://robotduck.com )
http://web.archive.org/web/20050206064050/http://swf.neopets.com/games/g349_v7_99392.dcr
http://images.neopets.com/games/g349_v8_99392.dcr (instantly causes a shockwave error)
http://images.neopets.com/games/g349_v9_99392.dcr (current version at http://www.neopets.com/games/game.phtml?game_id=349 )
http://images.neopets.com/games/g349_v10_99392.dcr
http://images.neopets.com/games/g349_v11_99392.dcr

If you get an error about location, click on it and press Shift-O-K.
If you hold shift while clicking on the name of a level, some versions let you play it even if you didn't complete the previous levels.
If you press Shift-R-D on the title screen (first click on it), a message will appear in the bottom right corner saying "A ROBOTDUCK GAME".

WHO ARE YOU? We have to know! How do you know all these things, are you a wizard?

No but seriously, how do you know this?

Also, I find myself incredibly curious but a bit disappointed in the fact that the absolute best game that ever came out of Neopets wasn't even made by themselves. Maybe I was naive, thinking they made their own games, but...

Oh well. Robotduck time. Added him on Skype and said I'm an admin here, we'll see what happens.

Cavemaker needs Ice Cave mode now doesn't it. :p
What do I need to add to get that working?

You need to add snow ('s', change '!', '@', '7', '8' and '9' into fake crates and remove 'n', 'u', '(' and '' (these prevent the level from loading). '6' and '0' also prevent the level from loading, but that was the same in HatPC.

I had HatIC on my previous laptop, but that one crashed. It might be that I still have them uploaded somewhere.

It could be that I didn't wait long enough. The level loaded to 80% (which was the line the arrows were located) a few times before getting stuck there. After that I would just go back to the code entry again.

Do you know the developer (Ben Pitt), David? Are you part of some sort of modding community?

Also, can someone record a video getting the 'impossible' gems in the older versions?

This is just.... wow.... Yes, He's definitely a Wizard :p Thank you for all the discoveries, David, now we can experiment with HATIC + we can try some of the older HATPC versions. Too bad we can't do anything with the uploader... but everything, that happened yesterday was just shocking. If anyone didn't do it yet, give karma for David for the first post of this topic!

Sorry for double post, but I wanted to help in creating the new HATIC cavemaker and I took the pictures (there are not water crates and tutorial arrows, but a snow has been added before the clone and shockwave error tiles) I also tried to add that snow tile instead of a tutorial arrow yesterday, because I found a script with the tiles in the Cavemaker$Cave.class file and the Cavemaker.java files, but after decompiling the class file it didn't want to compile again with the java compiler, so I just gave up. :p I don't know why I had to have that cavemaker that quickly, but I hope the time taken for it and taking the images isn't wasted. By the way, didn't take the picture of Ice Hannah since I don't think it's that needed. ;p

A computer wizard, maybe.
I figured out that data in Shockwave files (.dcr) are compressed with Zlib, a standard, widely used compressor. I decompressed the data, and one of them said: "In development for NeoPets by Robotduck.com".

How come that you decided to do this for a niche game at a website mostly populated by people ten years younger than you, and how did you find us? Are you a former member turned stealth?

Guys this is clearly Shavey Davey.

I would actually like the Snow Hannah, or Armin, as the Starting Position. Most of these images have the background image in it so I will see about removing it... Hopefully it will work out OK.

Would you rather separate level editor and have it soon, or same level editor and have it take longer? Trying to make a change like this will show me just how hacked together some of this stuff is, lol. I think it's not too bad but you can't really know until you try to make an edit like this. :p Are there any tiles like HATPC's enemy 4, that have a limit of how many you can put into a level?

Um... Are the wooden crates really smaller than the other crates or have you just scaled them down to fit in the snow? And them some of them take up the full space... Did you scale these images? Try and get the exact 32x32 of the tile and don't worry about the snow decoration too much. And yeah, the background on some of those pictures is pretty much impossible to remove....

We need to establish something. If TNT were to know that Robotduck watermark is still there, they might remove it or screw it up trying to delete it. Don't tell them or anyone on Neo, not that anyone here goes on.

It will be just better if there would be a separate "HATIC Cavemaker" =) About the starting position, yeah, I could take that Ice Hannah image. I knew about the background, I'm stupid at times. Here are the new images...:

> LINK <

The monsters are straight after the first images. The snow and the hannah are "snow" and "hannah", and you can modify hannah if you want. I didn't include the clone, door, water tiles, so you'll need to add them yourself. :p
