Introduction
It certainly won't take you long to figure out how our competitions work, but most of the information is spread out among different pages that you would only go through if you were trying to participate in a competition. This short guide's main purpose is to include most of that information in one page, which should hopefully make all parts of the competition system easier to understand.
The Basic Setup
All of the competitions that we hold follow the same basic format. Comps generally start on a Saturday, then they last for two weeks, and then they finish at the end of another Saturday. This means that you still have the final Saturday to work on your level and hopefully turn in a last-minute entry. There's also a rule that allows the competition to be extended for a maximum of one extra week if a certain amount of members haven't finished their entries yet. Also, there will never be multiple competitions of the same game running at any one time. However, competitions from different games will probably overlap with each other.
Once a competition is over, it's usually another week until the next competition can begin. Throughout that week, the judges will use that time to release the results. There is no list of permanently established judges, so that means that the judges are chosen based on availability. The final results are an average of each judge's decisions.
Joining a Competition
In order to participate in any competition, you must first have an account on the site. Once you're logged in, you can click on the "Join This Competition" button next to the competition that you want to join. When you get to the entry submit page, you can either select a level in your Gallery, or you can submit a new level, which will automatically be added to your gallery at the same time. Once your level has been submitted into the competition, you can see it on that competition's information page.
Because your entries are linked to the levels in your Gallery, any changes made on that level will affect your competition entry. So if you want to make a revision to a level you submitted, you don't need to turn in your entry again, but you should instead make the change to the level in your gallery.
Tournaments
Tournaments are major events that are not held often. A tournament basically consists of a series of rounds that are very similar to standard competitions. The winners of each round are given points based on how well they scored. These points accumulate after each round, and they form the standings for each member. Tournaments usually last over long periods of time, so we usually let people join tournaments even after certain rounds have already finished. However, this still leaves them at a major disadvantage in the overall standings.
Competition Rules
These rules apply to every competition, but a competition may also add additional regulations of its own. These rules also affect tournaments.
- No previously-made entries are allowed in the competition unless stated otherwise.
- Your entry must follow the theme and additional rules of the competition or tournament round.
- You must enter your entry before the competition or tournament round is over.
- The competition can get extended for a maximum of one extra week.
- Plagiarizing another person's level, or part of a level, will result in complete disqualification, unless permission was given beforehand. (Note that most users will probably be flattered if you do, but to be certain, ALWAYS ask before you do anything like this.)

And that's it! That's all you need to know about our competition system. If you ever have any questions in the future, you can easily visit this page for quick reference. If your questions still haven't been answered, you can post it on the forums or send a PM to me, Livio, or any other staff member. User Comments (14) | shos |

I was about to say that I'd make one for you but then I remembered that you can 1. do one yourself 2. view it no matter what I do because we got the same powers now. | | jellsprout |

I made a board with access level 1 (only Accel and Haily), but gave you permission. Not even I can see it now.
For each comp, you should give each judge permission and remove them after the comp is over. I'm expecting the other mods not to give themselves permission if they aren't judges.

I certainly hope they'll respect that, because in all honesty I have a feeling they won't. | | Livio |

cool so I guess I didn't have to code anything crazy for a discussion board after all. In fact I would've wanted it to be more controlled, but whatever. Now if there's anything I ever wanted to add to the judges, it would be the comments thing, which takes no effort at all. You could just write it into the news post yourself... | | canadianstickdeath |

Well you could code that, whenever somebody becomes a judge, they get access to the judging forum until the comp is over automatically. I guess that they will be able to view discussions regarding other comps that are going on at the same time, though. | | jellsprout |

How often do we hold multiple comps at the same time anyway?

my idea would've been to create something like a second forum system (copy and paste), except that the permissions thing would be for each topic, and there won't be any boards. and then the "new posts" thing would come up as an alert like the pm alert. that way judging would be much more confidential, and so that multiple comps won't interfere with each other | | Quirvy |

Maybe you should hold judging in forum 10, or something, that way our fellow staff members can't gain access to it unless Accel assigns them permissions.

For now, just don't mess with the Judging Forum. If you do so I will be grumpy. | | |
