Description:
The blades of fire kept coming. Mario dodged, ducked and weaved, but in the end, their sheer numbers destroyed his soul. Bowser laughed his high, cold laugh as mario sank into the lava. Now it's time for round 2.

Sorry, but you should really put more effort and time into your levels. In this level, all you put were firebars and boos, and they were scattered randomly around the level, making it look sloppy. Not only that, but you didn't put castle music, when this level is clearly a castle.

No offense, butI think the whole castle music thing is a slightly bad excuse. I mean, if they give you the option to change the music, why wouldn't you wanna make it something different? Hell, I made the Star music play all throughout My Eyes.

Yeah, but the thing is isn't that he made different music, it's that he didn't edit the music at all. You purposely edited the code to get star music which shows you actually cared about the music choice, but here the music was completely left alone, and with all the other levels this person made. Not only that, but HOW does it take TWO people to make a simple and very short level? This level has tons of wasted space, less than 1500 and no used bonus zone. and something that would be considered spam on the smf forums should be spam here. I know this rate is quite harsh, but there isn't a difference between an SMF level that only has about 1/4 of it filled and a hatpc level that has only about 1/4 of the level filled.

Kro I enjoyed this level maybe most out of all I've played and I don't care that it was a bit repetitive or about the music (because I didn't have volume anyway). Would you rate someone down for leaving the terrain as terrain 1 in HatPC?

that's not what I mean. You can pick any terrain for any level because the terrain doesn't really match anything important.
But castle music should go with castles, cave music with caves, ect. But what should terrain type go with?

It's just sloppy and bad not to change the music to fit the theme of the level.

Me and my two friends (dannyboy1003 and nebnebben) are all SMF noobs. As far as I can remember you have to change the music through the code, not in the level editor, which you cannot expect a beginner to know.

I also thought the post itself was quite rude, even if the content was constructive you could have talked about this nicer.

I agree. This was made on his first day ever playing SMF. No need to be so harsh kro.

You can change music to castle music through the level editor, you only need to edit the code to get star, boss defeat, and level defeat music. Not only that, but my first review was nice until Yaya just went and complained about it. I guess I really could have been nicer, but they still have to improve quite a bit. If you're just nice to them 100% like

But Kro instead you could say instead of "In this level, all you put were firebars and boos" you could say it nicer like "Maybe next time you can put in more of a variety than firebars and boos, it will make the level more interesting and fun to play".

I'm not good enough to tell them what to do better and I just wanted them to have a pleasant rate for their first levels. Also I thought this much easier and more user friendly than most of the other SMF levels on the site so I didn't have any problems to point out in the level, especially relating to really fine points like music.

Kro, using Terrain 3 in a metal-only level should be a crime because of how bad they match, if using castle music in a non-castle level causes you this much pain. (Besides, who plays with sound on?)

There's nothing bad in pointing out things that can be improved, but the way you put it is extremely important. For example, if you look at how Shos has treated sup_mus earlier levels, you can see that he pointed out lots of things to improve upon, but he did so in a very considerate way. If you want to be taken seriously and avoid complaints about your...well, complaints (because that's what you've written), then try to rephrase yourself. Especially considering this is two newcomers to the site.

This is a decent level for a first try but there are many things that could be improved about it like the fact that as kro so kindly pointed out there are only 2 things in it, firebars and boos. This means that there are only 2 or 3 different ways to complete it and a good SMF level should have you thinking on your feet and not simply repeating excactly the same thing over and over in your battle to complete a level. So overrall OK, but could do with some more variety. Try putting in things like warp pipes to hidden areas and adding more length to your levels.
There are more than 2 or 3 ways to complete this, and not every smf level should have to make you think much. SMF can still have puzzles, but they are usually easier puzzles. Many of my levels are fun because they are simple and straightforward.

Oh and don't spam smilies.

why exactly did you rate a level somewhat badly saying it was good for a first try when it was your level to being with?
