what happened to the old challenges forum, you ask? well, we got rid of it b/c it wasn't really being used. However, there were still some extremely awesome ideas that resulted from that system, so I'm reviving the whole concept of Challenges into a single mega-topic.

Here's how Challenges work:
If you have an idea for a certain type of level, you can challenge other people to try that idea and if enough people actually try that challenge, then suddenly it's almost like an informal mini-competition.

Try to avoid spamming in order to revive old challenges.

Most challenges usually go ignored, but the real beauty of the system is a way to share ideas. And we might use these challenges as part official events, like the failed Interguild Challenge Tournament. so post away, and behave yourselves.

Current challenges:

Let's get this thread underway.

The Secret Maze

Make a cave of any size where you are only allowed to use terrain, secret areas and a door. You must manually edit the starting position on an empty line, so you start at the top-left corner of the map.

Completed by:
-neofriendly

I also took the liberty to add a list of challenges to the first post. I think that will make this thread easier to browse.

Well, you're the one who came up with this topic, so don't ask us.

I'll enter for this one. Does it matter what the cave is named? Or do we just go crazy on the idea and still base it on the theme?

the name shouldn't matter.

and jell edited the "current challenge" into my post, so I'm asking him.

Edit3ecided to switch terrain to type 4 like dando dose so it's easier to see the secert areas and it's less annoying.

I have 3:
neofriendly_9:Maze level
neofriendlierepends (currently work for part of probably to fail imperio walkthrough)
q789q:Old account made in... I'd say 2004. Bottom half is missing, which brings us to the next challenge:
The q789q Challenge!
Rules:
1.The goal is to complete the cave on q789q that lost the bottom to a glitch.
2.You must keep the objects added the same.
3. You must only add under the bottom of what I have discluding the border, and right of what I have discluding the border.
4.You must extend the height to 26 tiles (making the part I made the top half)
5.The level will be on q789q if you want to try it, despite it being impossible
6.Rules are subject to change.
7.The judge will be me and 1 or 2 people with a caverating thread. The cave with the best average rating out of all the judges wins.
8.You may change the title
The code is as follows:
Code:
drtdctrvfrfyjyt
terrain 2
background
water clear
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
x    o            |                    x
x=======        o |                    x
x=             xx |   xxx              x
x=             "  |   x+x              x

x=   +    +    " >|    "x              x
x=   ======    "|=||| x"x              x
x=             "^^^>| x"xxxx           x
x#   5 D  m  n5"   >| x""""x           x
x=  "xxxxxxxxxx"||||| xxxx"x           x

x   "                 | |x"x           x

Edit:accidently put part of imperio in.

challenge: build up the most hype possible for a single cave, release it, and then see what happens. the building up hype part should be the most interesting part though.

Remember that one cave that mystic made. Mezzaine, or something like that. He made a trailer for it, people were excited, and then he released it and it was overhyped...

anyone want to top that, then? that cave could've had much more hype.

I remember someone said my Drain Glitch video was over-hyped, but that hype was completely accidental. maybe b/c I took so long to make it...

Yeah, that was probably me. You made that entire cave with the purpose of understanding the glitch, and it took you a very long time to make the video. I was expecting it to be around 7-10 minutes long.

But I didn't necessarily think it was overhyped because of mistakes you made, I think it was overhyped because the water drain glitch isn't very useful, in my opinion.
