So with all of the effort to improve/reform the interguild, there are probably three things that a site needs in order to be successful (from most to least importance) : content, advertising, and presentation. Right now I'm really working on the presentation (layout) and content (improving the level database, adding that directory idea), but we seriously need to improve our efforts of advertising.

First of all, I think more people should become more involved in leading the interguild's advertising strategies. I've tried to do some stuff in the past, but generally it gets drowned out by my priorities in the other parts of the site and I tend to forget about it. And with advertising being so important to getting new members, we really need someone other than me to be in charge of these things.

In fact, what we need is someone else to claim leadership over the Interguild's advertising strategies and make sure we're doing a good job of trying to get more members. Ultimately, there's still gonna be some work that falls back to me, and while I will hopefully try to help as best as I can, I think it would work best if all of this advertising stuff wasn't so dependent on me.

And that's what this topic is for, so that you guys can discuss what we should do to get more members. Here are some things we need to focus on:

First we need to get members to advertise for us more. For example, posting youtube videos helps b/c they link back to the Interguild, but we also need people to post links to us on their profiles or sigs on other forums and sites. Maybe we could make link-back buttons, but ultimately, I think I'm gonna be the one who ends up making such images.

The Facebook and Twitter Interguild accounts are great because people who don't come to the interguild often can still receive updates and hopefully show up more often. On top of that, our fans can invite their friends and stuff. But right now, I'm the one running these things, and I don't have time to run them, so I sometimes neglect it. Like last week, I think I posted a week's worth of updates at once (i think it was like 4 or 5 posts) b/c I completely forgot about it during the week. It'd be much better if someone else maintained them.

We also need to make sure we present the Interguild as a level database for all games, rather than a community about games with user created content. The former just resonates with more people, while the latter may not catch anyone's interests.

No #£¤!"#, Sherlock - there's a reason why I wanted to become an admin for the Facebook page that I even took the initiative for - I knew that you are overloaded, yet you refused to allow me to help you out on that part.

now when you post on the Interguild page, you'll come up as "interguild.org" instead of Axel Wik.

Plan A: Make faked x-rated site links that lead to here on google images and search so then we'll get a bunch of older members (probably on registered sex offender list though, but only a minor downside).

Plan B: Once you get a bit more done with Aeon/ or get figure out the direction you wish to take the site in when it comes to The Games and make some whacky Aeon/Game Directory trailer and put it on Youtube.

we could ask D52 to use his/her/its godly site hacking powaz to command every member of whatever site he/she/it hacked to join to interguild or be punished, for example, get slapped by a fish, or, if D52's in a happy mood, force that person to stay in a locked room with Quirvy for 5 minutes.  If they still do not join we keep punishing them.  Although i dont know how many times a person can endure such a thing.

also, i think there should be some sort of visitor chatbox option, so that we can also chat with the people that arent registered, and hopefully persuade them to register.  If you're reading this and you're not registered, register, or you will be mercilessly slapped with a fish.

I don't think talking to unregistered people will persuade them to register. That's actually less of an incentive to register b/c you don't need the account to post.

i guess not, but the chatbox isnt the whole world.  theres forums and other stuff too.  maybe do something like, how theres different levels of service, the first being only able to post in the chatbox, and if you register, you get the best service, like being to post in all forums?

there are some sites out there that let you post without having to register, but they're usually mainly for blogs and commenting, where you don't get anything else out of having an account. Here you need an account to post levels and stuff, and it would just be weird to have both registerd and non-registered people commenting on stuff.

Right now, I think we should focus on making the site look professional before we advertise more. That means we need to
1. Fix ttypos
2. Make a more professional and formal home page
3. Hire more staff
4. Relocate and regroup things that look out of place
5. Make more levels
6. Start to compete with other websites/add links to other websites (with permission)

yeah, that's partly the whole idea behind the new layout. But we still need to get our advertising straightened out.

Hah, nevermind. You know what I'll do? Blame Haily.

Taken from our Facebook page:
'I' said:
...And I don't know if it was your intention or not, but I'm not an admin here, meaning I can't keep this page updated...

'Interguild.org' said:
...Should we make all of the staff admins? But if we do that, then who are we posting for? xD

Btw, this was posted by Haily..

You may be right. Because I was new to facebook at the time, Haily had to explain everything about pages and groups to me, so I forgot that you were the one who made that original group and I started thinking that Haily did it just like with the page. so yeah, it's Haily's fault.

so anyway, we need to become more active when it comes to trying to get more members. Right now we're putting almost zero effort when it comes to this. Any ideas?

You work on Aeon, it's the best you can do - either that, or create banners. Even old ones could work as long as the URL's in them are rewritten (not linking to interguild.domingo.org).

What we can do then is to use these banners. We have no natural way of advertising, except on Neopets, unfortunately. If Harumbai could engage the Knytt Stories community slightly, the FR2 active ones (Soccerboy?) engage the fr2db community and Jazz tries to engage a SMF community, if it even exists one. Basically, try to engage a community where you're already known, or at least show interest in.

Why not make them 'stand out' a bit more? Maybe make the words and images brighter and the background darker.

Just leave mario to canadians. We need more canadian members in my opinion. We only have, I don't know, me, csd, angel, dando, and I don't who else (I hope nobody visits from emo, ontario or hell, michigan(these are real places(no really))).

And for Kyntt Stories, I don't know what to say about that except that the level maker is sort of complica

anymore feedback on these userbars?

yeah, the HATPC one doesn't stand out very much, but it also depends on what background they're placed in. Btw, I just realized that the HATPC one should at least someone include "interguild.org" somewhere so that it's advertising...

The problem is that a lot of bigger sites don't allow you to post links in your signatures.

Secondly, I feel that there just aren't enough members in Europe, not America. I generally come on and find myself alone.
