The Interguild Olympics are coming up. They start on July 1st, but we've done absolutely no planning so far. So post your ideas of what kinds of categories we could have this year. We'll also likely do the teams thing again.
Ideas from the chatbox:
'guyguyxtreme' said: Comp suggestions: another pentanthalon, minecraft, hatkc as a joke lol
Another blog contest! 'Yaya' said: Maybe another "reborn" comp and Interguild banner?
links to last year's stuff, if it helps:

I think there should definitely be another blog contest. | | Jorster |

We did teams last year, and I think it was interesting enough to have stick around, even though i felt the team chats were somewhat underutilized. It'd be nice if there were more team-oriented things for this year, if we have the teams again. I think it'd be a good idea for this year to have a new gimmick as well, but I'm not sure what that gimmick would be. | | Livio |

last year's top 'gimmicks' were the teams and the pentathlon. The original 'gimmick' from the first year is the basic premise of the IO: have a bunch of categories, where you may or may not enter in, but entering in more gives you a greater chance at winning the whole thing.
Maybe this year we could have a contest / category for team spirit. The team that displays the most spirit throughout the IO wins that category. Think of how the Ninja Koopas all had that banner in our sigs. | | FlashMarsh |

'guyguyxtreme' said: We should do Team sign ups now! Just for clarification, you don't sign up for a team, you sign up for participation in the IO and then teams are made from that, unless I'm wrong.

Think of how the Ninja Koopas all had that banner in our sigs. You're lucky you didn't have that last year. Just think of what the KarmaBites would have done relentlessly in their attempt to win that contest.
I'm not against the idea, though.

Ok, this might be getting too detailed, but I'll expound off the "reborn" concept to keep it original:
We could have to take a singleplayer HATPC or HATIC layout and make a cave out of it OR
Make a cave out of the Interguild logo (Have an "I" room, "N" room, "T" room, you get the idea).
More ideas:
Actual "speed" cave:
Make a good cave that can be beaten under an abnormal amount of time (preferably low)
No Terrain SMF/N/FR2 level: These could be interesting....
Hatpc Art Comp: Like Teh Shos or The Bell Sprout level
Aeon Music Comp: Self Explanatory

COMING SOON: A giant meteor. Please.

I won't be involved in the IO this year. I'll be gone during the first two weeks of July and I'll be jetlagged for the better part of the third. And after the great feedback of the previous year, I'm not too motivated to go judging again.

Hmm, how about a 'mixed' level comp? Like, if you look at Potpourri, it's a maze, puzzle, timed puzzle, and a speed cave all in one. | | nebnebben |

There should definitly be an imagination comp.

'Jazz' said: Hmm, how about a 'mixed' level comp? Like, if you look at Potpourri, it's a maze, puzzle, timed puzzle, and a speed cave all in one. seems kind of hard to do. I'm not sure about this one.
'Yaya' said: We could have to take a singleplayer HATPC or HATIC layout and make a cave out of it This sounds like a familiar idea. Did we ever do this before? If not, it sounds cool.

'Yaya' said: Actual "speed" cave:
Make a good cave that can be beaten under an abnormal amount of time (preferably low) Maybe. We'll probably have the Speed level category again, though, and I remember seeing a few such levels (Red Remover) entered in this category anyway.
'Yaya' said: No Terrain SMF/N/FR2 level: These could be interesting.... Has anyone ever made a no-terrain FR2 level that didn't end up being a DDA? Maybe.
'Yaya' said: Hatpc Art Comp: Like Teh Shos or The Bell Sprout level I feel like that wouldn't be very popular.
'Yaya' said: Aeon Music Comp: Self Explanatory Dekudude better make that guide of his!
'jorster23' said: Minecraft contest? Yeah, we'll probably end up doing one.
'jorster23' said: like biggest structure? that's such a shallow way to measure the greatness of a structure. I'd like to see a "most creative structure" category.
'jorster23' said: best pair of shoes? fattest bug? These seem kinda boring, if you ask me. If we're gonna have a category requiring a specific type of structure, it should be (1) as general as possible (rather than bug, say animal or creature), and (2) the goal should be to simply make the best structure as possible, rather than simply fattest or biggest.
'guyguyxtreme' said: hatkc as a joke lol that would be torture!
'Yaya' said: Maybe another "reborn" comp and Interguild banner? I'm not sure about this one. Every time we reuse an old idea, people are less motivated to actually enter it because they've probably already tried it before, or the idea doesn't have as much novelty. | | Quirvy |

Also people have pretty much never been motivated to do the reborn theme. I remember back when we held that as a normal comp only 2 people other than me entered into it, and I don't believe we tried that as a comp in the IO.

The imagination comp would work, by not who makes the best level but who uses in their level the most imaginative ideas and the best. For example, exploiting a glitch which had never been used before or simply doing something that never thought to do before. Example: Make a level in SM63 where you have to ride a seagull through loads of different obstacles.

reminds me of the innovation comp. I also feel like people should be trying to do this stuff without needing a comp specifically for it. | | jellsprout |

I suggested this previous year, I think for the Pentathlon. I suggested Level 7.
