We need a thread to discuss the specifics of the crates. So here it is.
We have already agreed there will be 4 different classes of crates:
-Fragile. New class. The player will be able to break through this with knockback.
-Breakable. In HatPC wooden crates. The player will be able to break through these but will be pushed back/up/down a bit.
-Unbreakable. In HatPC steel crates. The player won't be able to break these, but they are breakable by missiles and explosives.
-Indestructible. New class. They can't be destroyed in any way. But each time they are hit with a missile, explosion or possibly even the player it will shoot out its contents like a normal crate. The only difference is that the crate won't disappear and will still be usable later.
-Lethal. A new class. It is like an Unbreakable crate except that if the player touches them, he/she would die.
It is not up for discussion if we will include them or not. That has already been decided on and our decision will not change. What is up for discussion are the descriptions for the classes. Like with the Indestructible crates, it might be better if they would release their contents only once and turn into a plain Indestructible after that.
What is also up for discussion are more classes. A good idea I heard once is the Flaming class. It is like an Unbreakable crate, except that if you touch it you will die.
Another thing we need to discuss is what materials the crates should be made of. These are my suggestions:
-Fragile: Either cardboard or straw. These are both used as containment materials and are easy to break through as a human.
-Breakable: Plastic. It is somewhat strong, but many plastics can be destroyed by humans. It also suits the futuristic theme. And about the bouncing, it would probably be best if the destruction animation came with a small explosion which would launch the player a bit.
-Unbreakable: Wood. No ordinary human is able to destroy a solid wooden crate without tools. But it is easy to destroy through explosions. So I'd say this is perfect for the Unbreakable class.
-Indestructible: Either metal or concrete. Both are very strong materials, able to withstand much punishment. Strong metal alloys and reinforced concrete are in any case strong enough to withstand small explosions.
-Lethal: A wooden crate, except with flames surrounding the crate. The crate itself might be reddish or blackish.
An alternative idea is to have all crate classes be colour coded such as:
-Fragile: White
-Breakable: Brown
-Unbreakable: Gray
-Indestructible: Black
-Lethal: Red
Discussion points:
-Precise descriptions for the classes
-Possible new classes
-Appearances of the classes.

i do agree for practically all you mentioned.
also, an idea for the dynamite could be grenades, if we start discussing that.

I'm sticking with dynamite. grenades aren't as powerful | | jellsprout |

I also thought about grenades. They logically would work correctly.
TNT sticks on the other hand are completely unlogical. They should explode the moment the crate gets destroyed, they aren't be thrown or designed to explode on impact and they don't make sense in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world.
But that is another discussion. This is all about crates. No missiles, no explosives, no characters. Only crates.

I've added to the descriptions in the first post what they were in HatPC and what is new.

That is a crate type.
Each crate has a type and a class. The class is like wooden or metal. The type is like dynamite or plain. This is all about the classes.

I'd say Gem crate would become a gold chest. it's openable =]
crates should be plastic, but how do we draw that?
and concrete should suffice.
for the indestructible - Nethanol would be awsome, but then again, i assume nobody here knows what it is..?

I think concrete will work for indestructible. Do you have any idea how much explosives you need to blow that stuff open?
The plastic should probably work as a bit whitish with elliptic light reflection that would be dimmer around the edges than in the center. It might even be possible for Accel to make it semi-transparant.
Diamond crates won't be all that practical. Firstly, it evaporates when burned and secondly, it gets stolen by thieves. It is more practical to use the diamond to coat your knives' edges.

Yeah one time a plane even ran into a concrete wall and the concrete wall didn't fall down and the plane decintegrated. | | shos |

as far as i know, we're using missiles as arrows? and missiles *do* destroy concrete quite easily.
that was a paper airplane, kro

if one of the classes had glass crates that would be awesome.
Also in the first post did you mean to put "fragile: can go through without knockback"

I always thought that it'll look cool if the indestructible class would feature black steel or something
and it'd be cool if we could at least keep some form of surrealism in the game. There's something about it that seems to imply fun. and we wouldn't have to worry about making things make so much sense | | dabigkid |

Hey, you know, if you want the game to look perdy then you won't want to use a million different drastically looking tiles.
Remember, this is a video game... not supposed to be 100% realistic. I mean, who destroys a box and all of its presumed contents just by walking into it?
I suggest that the fragile and breakable crates look slightly the same. Same with the indestructible and unbreakable crates.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
Dark one is indestructible. And you can guess what the rest are... not hard. | | canadianstickdeath |

Lol, I never thought of the fragile crates, just saying fragile on them. I guess they speak english on Aeon? I always figured they'd have their own languages... Ah who cares; it doesn't need to be realistic, right?
And if HB's tiles weren't so awesome, I'd just suggest we use those. But since HB's gone missing, maybe we should just use those? They'd look great if we made the game "wobbly". | | jellsprout |

How's this for a metal crate?

Looks pretty good but too dark, in my opinion. Could be used for an indestructible metal crate without problem though. | | jellsprout |

We could also go the easy route and simply give all classes different colours. Like indestructibel is black, fragile is white, breakable blue and unbreakable green or something.
But also the other discussion points. Would we perhaps need a new class? I personally like the flaming class.

indestructable: black
unbreakble: grey
breakable: brown
fragile: white | | shos |

I don't like this idea. too amateur.
But, we can make a class of raw-paintings; like a mod for the game's design - where we'll put all the first-drawings. catta's player, kro's spike, etc...
