Don't you just hate getting Game Over in Super Mario Flash? You're trying to beat someone's level and suddenly you have to wait about a full eight seconds for this stupid screen to get out of the way. Here are my steps on how to get past it in the fastest possible way:
  1. After losing your last life, right-click anywhere in the game and click on "Quit". This will take you straight to the main menu.
  2. While pressing the "c" and "h" keys at the same time, click on Option.
  3. Click on "50 Lives". This will set your life-count to 50. Thanks to Teo_pl's guide for this.
  4. Now go back to the main menu, click "Level Editor".
  5. Click "Play", near the center of the screen to return to the level.
And that's how you can skip the game over screen.

We've tried several other methods to get around that screen. Before learning of the Right-Click Quit button, we would quit the level when we only had one life left, and then go back to the main menu so that it would reset our life-count. And before we knew of the secret 50-lives trick, we also looked into creating a level that would allow us to gain a ton of lives relatively quickly so that we would run out of lives less often. However, this was idea was hindered by the absence of a 1-Up mushroom in SMF. We instead tried to create a massive coin run because getting 100 coins gives you a new life, but it takes too long and only yields about five lives, so it is just impractical.

I found this out before, but i never shared it with you guys. if you dont want to do this, you could just make a huge level with alot of coins and keep playing that level for alot of lives

New idea: everyone should start each of their levels with a 100 coin run

thats only one life. if you really want many lives you're gonna have to make a big level full of coins.

but if it's at the start of each level, wouldn't you get a new life every time you start the level?

What if you load a different level with 1-ups then go back to the old one?

then it would just be faster to do go to the main menu, unless you manage to get a large amount of lives quickly.

I just spent a while creating a super coin run level, where you basically get the mushroom then run across two rows of coins while constantly jumping to hit coin blocks immediately above you. It takes about a minute or two to get to the end, and you only end up getting like 5 lives. So it's not worth it. If you were able to get like 99 lives, then it would turn out to be useful...

Update! I found a better way to skip the game over screen, so I rewrote the guide.

We're used to games like HatPC with infinite lives, as well as Free Rider 2 and N, both completely without lives.

if you hit quit while playing a level there is an X in the corner of the game screen that brings you to the level editor instantly, so once you get your 50 lives you can just click that
