How do you set up a server for making a game online?

For devices such as computers and iPhones, etc

I want to start a project for an online gaming community and also making money any feedback is good, thank you

It is for making a game. I was going to attempt to make an application for iOS but I do not possess the resources such as money and software or knowledge to go through with it. Apple company requires a $100 fee to enter any application into their app store, which quite unreasonable in my opinion but I guess it is a way to keep the entries under control.

Also the game would have similar characteristics as games such as Pocket Summoner for iPhone/iPod touch which incorporates much addiction and messaging system which would all require a server and such. Anyway it is just a short dream but put on hold for now
