He has several options here:
1. He can knot the rope secure at the water's edge sqrt(2)*25 away from the corner at both sides leading away from the corner. Because the rope makes a Pi/2 angle with the water's edge and sqrt(2)*25 is larger than 20, you are ensured that the rope will cross the other side. Then he can climb across.
2. He can walk along the edge and look for a bridge.
3. He can wait until it is winter and the water freezes.
4. He can stop being a pansy and just swim across.
Edit: Also in response to this:
'Yaya' said: Question: Why are all manhole covers circular?
A circle has a constant length along every angle in the polar plane. So there are not two angles a and b for which the length along angle a is shorter than the length along angle b, so there exists no angle you can turn this body by to make it fit through a hole of its own shape.
There are actually other 2D objects with this property, such as the Reuleaux Triangle. This is a triangle with circle segments as sides, such that the center of these circle segments lie on the opposite angle:
All of these would work just as well for manholes. The only reason circles are used instead of these other curves of constant width is because circles are easier to design and produce.
Other examples for you Brits are the 20p and 50p coins.

Hang on, there's another option:
5. He can wait for someone to offer help or for someone to build a bridge there. | | shos |

That is because I like to wait until it is actually confirmed that I had the correct answer. You might have had a different answer in mind.
Question: A cowboy rode into town on Friday, stayed for three days and left on Friday. How is this possible?

The one who makes it always sells it,
The one who buys it never uses it,
and the one who uses it never knows he's using it.

Not really, I watched a really good sitcom once. They didn't joke much, but it was still funny.
Oh, OK, Yaya doesn't want to.
By the way, this is a double post because I can't find the Edit button. I know where it used to be, but maybe my comp's screwed up.
Found the edit button, this post is no more. I accidentally listed 'edit' as a censored word.
One day, a wicked and greedy man and a sinister and repulsive man met the police at the police station. Who left the police station first?

No, done is not an answer. The choices are the WG man or the SR man.
I had to.
By the way, any interguild memes not on the last option? | | |
