On the Interguild, minecraft is really the only part of the site that gets activity. There's that and forum games. The only HatPC players left (it seems) are me, buboy, and sup_mus. The last actual HatPC level made not by me, buboy, or sup_mus, was by krotomo, on September 20th. Before that, again krotomo, this time August 25th.

There really do need to be more HatPC levels. It might be just taking the time to just sit down and make one. For a non-minecrafter like me, the Interguild seems even more dead than it already is. Pretty boring, eh?

The featured content is completely about minecraft, if you count my FR2 level... We are a multi-game website after all. I'll be making a FR2 map late tonight, maybe some in a few other games too, just to explore.

Would a mafia game be impossible? I believe someone was talking about a minigame, to try to get rid of the inactivity problem. We just need activity, other than adding new minecraft stuff. It's cool to see the stuff you guys build, but I wish it wasn't the main focus of the Interguild.

So guys, post suggestions of what we should do to try to fix the inactivity.

That's because Livio spammed the featured content with his tour videos.

At the same time, with the rate of new featured content, this is gonna be like this for another 6 months or something .-.

Anyway why does a site have to have a point? Just let it evolve naturally, don't try to force people to explore certain areas of content, especially those that have been twisted, contorted, and stretched to near infinity by this same community, just because the community needs a point.

I've said before, I'm willing to host a mini game of mafia. I have a setup and everything. Anyone up for this?

The site has a point, though, and that's minecraft right now. It seems like any and all activity is done there. I couldn't know for sure, but by all the tours and stuff, it's probably is. I've contemplated quitting, but I keep kinda hoping that something will change, or something interesting will come up. Really the only reason I'm still on this site is because of nostalgia. The games and everything are fun to do once in a while, but this site has been such a part of my life. In a way, it's kinda sad that a bunch of people around the world, who I'll probably never meet, have become such good friends. I feel like I couldn't leave...

ninja'd: i'd be up for it. screw modding flaws and whatever. i don't think shos' messups really did that much harm.

Soccer, if you want to do something about it, then go get on Steam, buy some games, take some computers and use them as servers for the games, and host them for the IG for free, and then make IG game requests (such as: Deathmatch on TF2, or Counterstrike.)

I completely understand what you're saying, Soccer, and I feel the same, but I can't offer any solution, because if so I would have done it long ago.

Look, you need to accept that the Interguild is moving in a different direction. HATPC had a good run, but it's over. HATPC can't last forever, and quite frankly, I'm amazed it has lasted this long.

Like Isa, I totally agree with you Soccer. And totally like him, I don't have any genius solution. The whole shift has become extremely evident lately. It's nice that the Interguild is still kind of properly functioning, but it sucks to feel left out, bored, and junk. Instead of trying to make the site evolve, I've just decided to evolve. I spend A LOT less time on here than I did in say, April, or probably even September. Sure, it's nothing drastic, but even not going on in the mornings sometimes gives me the illusion that we're more active (in forum games).  I can't deny I spend more time on different sites that the Interguild these days. Nothing lasts forever, it's not like my stay on the Interguild was some sort of utopia. It just may end up like me and Runescape: I'll start coming on less and less until I only come on to read updates, than maybe I'll go on vacation and completely lose and interest in coming on to simply lurk. I don't know; the road to getting fed up with a site is a long and complicated one.

*Begins to dry heave* Sorry, Soccer that is definitely not the right solution. HATPC burned us out. If Tuna Casserole makes me puke, the first solution to come to my head is to not forcefeed it to myself until I build up a tolerance.

Well from what i have observed this comunity is focused on mapmaking games and currently the big game there is minecraft so it think it is quite normal that we get more minecraft content than other content. If people decide to play RTS i will always be up for it

I agree with Wully. Since Minecraft has a lot to it, you can do infinitely much with it; right now, it's 'the big game'. If some other game becomes the most likable, then we will probably get more content of it.

I've learned by many games of LoL, that if you don't improve and don't have fun doing it, it most likely isn't worth the time it takes. I'm terrible at TF2. It's nice that it's free, but I'm freakin bad at it. You probably won't see a worse player on than me. This goes for a lot of games. As long as you don't mind a guy with like a 1:40 KDR, I'll play. Pretty much the most I'll do, first-person-shooter-wise, is 2v2 on Halo, let my friend get a kill, then play hide and seek until the timer runs out.

None of these game really have any appeal to me. When someone makes a minecraft building, I get about just as much use out of it as someone else. "Hey, look that building's kinda cool!" With the user generated levels, there's more to it. When I beat Quirvy's level, Florida, it was pretty exciting lol. Minecraft just doesn't have that same appeal to me. Games in general where it's team vs team, same start up every time, it gets boring as quickly as....... something that is quick.

I've tried minecraft a few times. I can see why everyone likes it, but I don't think anything will come out of it unless you call TNT explosions "progress". That's really it. The countless hours it takes to make something doesn't give me satisfaction, and it doesn't seem like the response you get to it are worth it either.

I'm trying to think of some way to make IG exciting for non-minecrafters, but there's just nothing at this point.

I agree with Soccerboy. How about non-Minecraft users? It is still a community of multi-game database. I know that HATPC is growing boring, everything has an end but why end it now? As long as you have the passion, you can make great caves. Try old concepts you never used. I feel what you feel, Soccer.

It's good to be back.

I've been feeling the same frustrations as well. The other day I tried looking for non-minecraft levels to put into the featured content, but I just couldn't find anything that was made recently that felt like it deserved to be up there, and the ones that I did find turned out to be made months ago, so it would've felt like we were just putting it in for the sake of putting it in.

We really have burnt out of HATPC, and if Minecraft hadn't had come along, then we would've been long since dead by now. I've mentioned this before, but I feel like not even Aeon will be able to fix our HATPC burnout, and we're just going to have to find another game to capture our attention. The problem is that not everyone here likes Minecraft, and we haven't yet found a suitable HATPC replacement for these members.

I would really like to see us getting more involved with a larger variety of games, and hopefully more non-browser based games. The problem of course, is that it's hard for a game to stick if only one or two of us really become attached to it. So my best piece of advice is to just keep trying out different games and making levels for them until we get something that sticks. For instance, Sefro's Portal 2 level got some great response, but I haven't seen anyone else post a Portal 2 level. Also, Sefro, how come you've posted a video of your level but you didn't post your level into the database?

I'd be interested in making a portal level. However, I have no idea how to make one xD do you have to get it on steam or something?

Recently I've been looking for more games that I could talk about on the Interguild, I couldn't really find any that would suit many of our already small community. We need to spend a lot of time exploring the features of our current games, or become more active. I'm not active on the Interguild at all with HATPC, because I suck at it. I play it often, practice, and try to get better, but my progress isn't going very quickly. If everyone tried to find a new, interesting game with enough features to keep us going for a while, we would succumb to the needs of the game. We need to find something... Addicting, that everyone likes.

For Portal 1, you need to use complicated modding tools, but Portal 2 has a very nice built-in level editor. And yes, you have to buy both games.

I would kinda like to see some more intelligent discussion about game and level design, because then we as a community would start supporting levels that are genuinely well designed, and not just the ones that seemed to have the most time and effort put into them but are horrible to actually play through ( Bribe & Massacre, etc. )

I have this draft (Blog ID: 16 - yes, it's very old) that I never even came close to finishing, but I'll post it either way here.

---

Hello everyone. In this blog, I'll post a few pointers for the experienced cavemaker that may not be obvious, yet will significantly improve your caves.

Avoid secret areas
Far too many levels rely on secret areas. These are in most cases a major annoyance for the player. The cavemaker will know where he/she placed the secret areas can adjust his/her playing after that, while a regular player will not know (and isn't used to the level either, more on that later)

Don't make "My Best Level" 2

Use tutorial arrows, but do it correctly

Make your traps slightly easier than intended

---

Discuss the ideas that the titles bring up.

I learned a lot about secret areas lol. I occasionally use them in water levels, but i try to put tutorial arrows near them to indicate where they are.

One of your levels inspired me to write that post, and I put secret areas first because NOBODY used them in a satisfying way. ;p
