So, I got a Surface Pro for my birthday, and I am loving it right now. It does everything I need from a tablet/Laptop, and it even runs skyrim on low settings, Bioshock on high, and works great as an emulator. Anyways, I was wondering what kind of tablets you guys have/want, and why.

Also, 2000th post

I have a phone. Is that the same thing?

Except for the screen diagonal, I'd say. Some developers write different applications for tablets and phones, so I'm not going to particularize.
I have a GoClever tablet, but that was a cheap one and no one was going to use it seriously for anything important. Android 4.1 OS, screen diagonal about 7 inches long, processor 1 MHz, and RAM memory 1 GB (if I remember correctly). Still it's more RAM than in my Android phone (512 MB, but actually it has only about 384 MB.). I have never thought it's an excellent thing or something, but in fact it's actually pretty good comparing to how my phone's 512 MB affects the quality of the usage.
I see your one runs on Windows 8, a quite interesting thing. Could you tell us more about it?

So the surface has two versions, the RT and the pro. RT is cheaper, but it can only run apps downloaded from the Microsoft app store. The pro, on the other hand is completely unlocked, and is basically a tiny portable computer. You can install Microsoft app store apps, but also other programs, I've seen people using theirs for Photoshop and video editing and such. Windows 8 is an incredible OS when you have a touchscreen, as opposed to being an okay one without. The metro home screen is a breeze to use, and all the gesture shortcuts are great. It also has pretty decent specs (Intel I-5 processor) for a tablet.

So I should assume Microsoft did their best with this tablet? Just saw the amount of RAM memory, 4 GB! I'd say it's really much for a portable device, together with the pretty decent processor it must be quite enjoyable in usage. Well working video editing programs being used on this tablet sound cool, I have an unproffesional, factory-made one in my tablet, but you need to record decent quality videos first in order to have a good usage of that program. =p Speaking of your tablet, did you use the camera already? Does it make good photos, record clear and decent videos, or contain any cool functions for the camera?

I haven't actually used the camera, but it seems to be pretty decent. I'll let you know how good it is when I use it. There's also the second generation of surfaces, the Surface 2's (Creative name ) the RT version of the 2's has 4 GB of ram, and the pro 2 has a whopping 8 GB! I have yet to use one though

8 GB, that's twice as much as in my own computer! o.O Cool things, I guess it's quite helpful to own a Surface Pro. I'm curious how they come out in comparison with Apple products.

I looked it up, the Surface Pro 2 is 900 euros. For that same price you can get a high-end laptop.

I never understood the appeal of tablets. It is a smartphone that you can't actually carry with you and that can't make calls or it is an incredibly underpowered laptop. I really don't understand why anyone should bother with one.

Hey I too have a Surface Pro! Everyone who interned at Microsoft last summer got one for free, and I agree that it is indeed awesome. Windows 8 is a completely different experience with a touchscreen than without it, and it was because of my experience with the tablet that finally pushed me to upgrade my old laptop from 7 to 8.1. I guest I just really wanted the new start screen, haha. It's what the desktop always should've been.

If you haven't done so yet, you should download Wacom's Enhanced Tablet Driver, which will allow you to use the stylus's pressure sensitivity in programs like Photoshop:

We had tablets in class one day (TOTALLY POINTLESS WASTE OF MONEY), and instead of working, everyone just ended up messing around with the touchscreen. For 50 minutes.

Lol the same thing happened to me. My school bought like 40 iPads last year for educational purposes. We hardly ever use them and when we do the teachers have no clue how to use them so we end up getting nowhere. Then they bought 200+ Chromebooks. Total waste of money: Some of the kids who got them were irresponsible and broke them within a month, and the only thing the rest of them could do with them was go on educational sites on the Internet. In general the school district epically failed with technology. (They also haven't updated their computers in 10 years and they disallowed us from doing so. The computers are all Windows XP and they run ridiculously slowly)

I'll download that, thanks! My only problem with the Surface Pro is how stupidly short it's battery is (~3.5 hours for me), but other than that it's great

3.5 hours is what I'm used to in terms of laptop battery life. I almost always use the device plugged in unless I have to, and I think that helps the battery life? It's still good to drain the battery every once in a while, but I've rarely been unsatisfied with 3 hours of battery.

I haven't actually left the house with it, but I tend to have it plugged in at home. I think that leaving it plugged in doesn't negatively impact battery life, but also doesn't particularly help it.

My school has a bunch of crappy old Macs, but they've been upgrading to Chromebooks, slowly.  Thankfully it's actually helpful and it's nice not having t use potatoes.

My brother-in-law has a Surface Pro and I got to mess around with it for a bit.  It was pretty nice and, believe or not (=P), Windows 8 actually works well so long as you use it with a touch screen.  It was pretty cool to mess around with it, but it's really nothing special and the price is a little ridiculous.  He also said that the stylus was something stupid like $50 to replace.

I actually got a Google nexus 7 (2) tablet for Christmas. I'd say its more than decent for what I use it for. It has actually rather good battery life, but that may be because I don't run extremely heavy applications. I use it more for surfing the web, minor apps, etc. (Certainly more convenient to access the interguild from mobily than my phone (; ) it runs android 4.4.2 and runs quite smoothly. Much less expensive the 900 Euros, but definitely not as equipped as the surface pro. For anyone looking for a good, cheaper price for good quality tablet, I definitely reccomend it

I have a friend who has the Nexus 7, and he says it's great. I think that the target audience for the surface pro and the nexus 7 are very different, however.
